A Nepali official on Wednesday said that 105-year-old Krishna Kumari Khatri has been granted citizenship in Parbat district, 250 km west of Kathmandu.
Tek Bahadur KC, chief district administrative officer of Parbat district told Xinhua that his team gave a citizenship card to Kharti, an widow, who is living in Phakhabani VDC, a day walk from the district headquarters.
As Khatri couldn't come to the district administration office, officials went to her village to give her the card.
Khatri was born on July 2, 1907 in Bhoksing VDC Parbat and then moved to Phakhabani VDC after her marriage. She had been living without a citizenship card, KC said.
"I am very happy that we could give her the identity card," KC told Xinhua over phone, "We gave citizenship to 150 people and Kharti is one of them."
KC said that more people in the rural area in Parbat district will be given citizenship cards in the coming days as it is difficult for the people to come to the district headquarters.
The life expectancy of Nepalese is estimated at 68.7 years.
