The Rwandan President Paul Kagame said on Thursday that the Rwandese Patriotic Front (RPF) party will continue focusing on its mission of liberating Rwandans in all social, political and economical aspects of life.

The President made the remarks when addressing thousands of Rwandans who gathered at Amahoro National Stadium in Kigali to celebrate 25 years anniversary since the RPF ruling party was formed.

The 25-year-old party was founded in December in 1987 against the backdrop of entrenched divisive and genocide ideology that had caused repeated massacres, exile and poverty in Rwanda since the late 1950s.

"This day is a special day in our country's history. I thank all the RPF members for their contribution and dedication towards building this country. I am so happy to be part of the celebrations to mark 25 years of RPF," said Kagame.

"As we celebrate this day, let's recognize the liberation heroes who sacrificed their lives to give us the dignity, health, democracy and the prosperity we have today," he said.

Kagame who is also the Chairman of RPF recognized the RPF senior cadres who have played a great role in making the party strong and striving for the better future of Rwanda. "Even if I spend the whole day I cannot mention all the names of senior RPF cadres and really explain their worth to the party," he added.

At the event, the Head of State reminisced how the RPF started. "The party was born out of Rwandese Refugees Welfare Foundation (RRWF) and Rwandese Alliance for National Unity (RANU). All this was formed to restore respect for sanctity of life, the dignity and repatriation of Rwandans, fight injustices and develop our country," he said.

He said RPF learnt how to run before learning how to crawl because of the circumstances and troubles at the time.

"We are still the same people and we are capable of going back to those foxholes (Indaki), to fight for the truth, rights and our dignity. We are the same people, who cannot be hampered by lies and craftiness. We cannot be put down by lies," said Kagame.

"We liberated our country from the genocidal regime that culminated in 1994 genocide against the Tutsi and now we are still capable of going back to caves to fight for the truth and for our nation," noted Kagame.

"Even in the face of difficulty, RPF will not give up on its goal of building a dignified nation. The challenges will just delay our progress but we shall accomplish our goals," he said.

Kagame explained all the developments taking place in the country wouldn't have been achieved if the RPF government had not put in place strong policies that benefit all Rwandans.

Kagame stated the journey is still long but the ruling party is determined to take Rwanda to another level. He urged young people to build on the already laid foundation for the better future of Rwanda for the next generations.

He also recognized and hailed the ruling parties of Uganda, South Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, China, Mozambique, Lesotho, Tanzania, Burundi and Benin among others for partnering with RPF to help restore Africa's dignity.

"Africans must recognize that no one is going to speak for us; we shouldn't be denied a voice in global matters. We must continue to struggle for it. Africa cannot remain on the margins, we have resources and people, so we must strive for the better of our continent," emphasized Kagame.

"No one will deliver Africa to its rightful place. We are the ones to do it ourselves," he said.
