A total of 22 people were killed and 25 others injured in armed clashes in Sudan's East Darfur State between Sudanese Al-Rizaigat tribe and Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) of South Sudan, Khartoum's Al-Sudani daily reported Thursday.

"A force belonging to South Sudan's SPLA attacked Balila area which is affiliating to Samaha area Administration in East Darfur State and abducted three children and six women which led the citizens of the area to clash with the attackers," the paper quoted Siddiq Abdul-Nabi, a local official in east Darfur State, as saying.

"The clashes resulted in the killing of 22 people and injury of 25 others who have been transported to Al-Dein hospital," Abdul- Nabi said.

The citizens have managed to destroy a camp belonging to the SPLA in Kataki area and confiscated weapons and military equipment from the attackers, according to the report.

Abdul-Nabi urged the international community to investigate the incident, reiterating the importance for South Sudan to commit itself to the agreements and refrain from attacking the citizens.

Samaha area in East Darfur State is one of five disputed border areas between Sudan and South Sudan.
