Kenya's top cross country women Vivian Cheuiyot and Linet Masai will renew their rivalry on Saturday at the Edinburgh cross country meeting in Scotland, the two runners confirmed on Thursday.

The duo is part of the international line up that will be parading in the great Edinburgh meeting, which is part of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) series.

Already, Cheruiyot has ruled out her defence of the World Cross Country Championships in Bydgozcsc, but Masai, confirmed she is eyeing to win her second gold in the event in Poland in March.

"I have tried on four occasions as a senior to win gold, but I was not lucky. I was third in Edinburgh world cross in 2008, then I had hat trick of silver medals in Amman (Jordan), Bydgoszcz, and Punta Umbria, Spain.

"I believe I still have a lot to give to this event as I return to action Saturday. I like running in Edinburgh, the challenge is great - it's muddy, snow and slippery. The perfect course to test one's ability ahead of the World Cross," Masai said on Thursday in Nairobi.

However, Cheruiyot, the world cross country champion in Punta Umbria in 2011, said her focus has turned to track events.

"I have done enough in cross country. I will not be running for Kenya in Poland, rather I will focus on the track where I have to defend my gold medals in 10,000 and 5,000m races," she said.

The two were among a galaxy of Kenyan stars who jetted out Thursday evening for the race in Scotland and other series in Europe, which resume after the short Christmas and New Year holidays.

In Edinburgh, former World Championship 1,500m silver medalist, Lisa Dobriskey, will relish a clash against the outstanding overseas line up.

Dobriskey, who missed out on winning the world metric mile title in Berlin by just 0.01sec in 2009, is injury free for the first winter since that memorable occasion and is eager to get a hard race under her belt to blow away the holiday cobwebs and start the New Year in style.

Olympic 5,000m champion Meseret Defar will renew her rivalry with Cheruiyot and Masai.

Throw in World Indoor 1,500m champion Genzebe Dibaba and Olympic steeplechase bronze medalist and Sofia Assefa and it becomes toxic.
