Shanghai residents have become taken with the driving exam practice questions that a Shanghai software engineer posted online now that the city's traffic authority no longer offers practice tests, local media reported Monday.

The 26-year-old man, surnamed Ren, who works as a software engineer at the Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, posted 898 driving exam questions on his microblog Wednesday, according to a report in the Shanghai Morning Post. The questions have been downloaded about 55,000 times as of Sunday afternoon.

Ren amassed the questions by downloading practice driving exam software from a Hangzhou-based website where users share their experiences about learning to drive, the report said. The original practice driving tests may have been leaked from the traffic authority because Ren said the software resembles the one that the traffic authority uses for its own tests, the report said.

About 100 people said they  passed the driving exam after studying Ren's practice test.

"I took a make-up test and scored full marks because all the questions were included in Ren's post," a microblogger wrote Friday.

In the past, people could take a practice driving test that the traffic authority offered online. However, a majority of people have failed the driving test since the authority stopped offering the practice tests after new traffic rules were implemented on January 1, according to the report.
