The "Cultures of China, Festival of Spring"made its Southeast Asian tour's finale in Brunei Darussalam on Wednesday night by enthralling more than 2, 000 Bruneians with folk art performances.
Held at the Jerudong Park Amphitheatre in Brunei's largest amusement park, the one-and-a-half hour Chinese performing arts show featured some of the best Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region multi-ethnical displays.
On stage, there were folk dances, the national treasure face- changing opera show Bian Lian, puppet shows, magic and Peking Opera.
Some of the troupe gracefully danced to the Miao nationality's "Silver Dance" and "Songs over the Landscape" depicting the scenic Guangxi autonomous region.
Among those who attended the show were Brunei's deputy defense minister, deputy home affairs minister and deputy cultural minister.
"It was great and rare for Bruneians to see such performances. I hope more similar Chinese performances would take place more frequently here that they introduce us to the Chinese culture," Bruneian ministry of finance official, Pengiran Ros Pengiran Raja Hitam said.
"It is very exciting and I think they did a wonderful job holding the show... The face-changing was very spectacular," one of the audience, Lee Wai Yee told Xinhua.
Chinese ambassador to Brunei, Zheng Xianglin, expressed hope in his speech that the performance can attract more Bruneians to visit Guangxi in southwest China.
Organized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council and China Overseas Exchange Association, the performing arts show has been touring the world in a ritual held every lunar new year since 2008 in a way to bid well wishes to overseas Chinese communities and promote China's diverse folk cultures.
"Our motive is to strengthen the cultural exchange between China and Brunei in the grandest season for the Chinese the Spring Festival. We are here to pay a visit to the ethnic Chinese communities,"
"Excerpts from the world renowned ethnic Zhuang musical Liu Sanjie were one of the people's favourites. Its beautiful melody combines elements from the Western culture and the essence of the Eastern culture," Director of the Guangxi Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, Feng Zuhua, told Xinhua.
The Guangxi arts troupe had previously toured Cambodia and Laos before arriving in Brunei.
