"I saw some really horrible pears in the supermarket. What do you guys think about it?"
Web user "The new world of little prince" Monday shared a photo of some bizarre pears he saw at Sam's Club supermarket in Yizhuang, Daxing district, on Sina Weibo. The pears, dubbed "Auspicious baby pear," caught people's attention because they bear a strong resemblance to a human face, and also reminded many people of the Baby Ginseng fruit made famous in the Chinese novel Journey to the West. Agricultural experts say that the pears were shaped to take on this appearance in the early stages of their growth. The baby pears priced at about 10 yuan ($1.60) each at the supermarket are currently sold out. (Source: Beijing Morning Post)
