Zhongding Power, one of the largest automotive component conglomerates in China, will finance $200 million to construct the first Opoc engine plant in East China's Anhui Province.
The Opoc engine, designed by US-based EcoMotors, is poised to revolutionize cleantech engines. It is a clean, efficient, lightweight and low-cost internal combustion engine.
The technology generates the same amount of power as a conventional engine with half the weight and size, EcoMotors said.
The plant will have the capacity to produce 150,000 engines per year, and over $1 billion in revenue potential.
Production of the engines are set to begin next year, but won't be seen in vehicles until 2015-16. However, consumers could start to see the engines in products like portable generators as early as next year.
"These engines ... will allow for more creative designs for the vehicle itself," said Andrew Chung, a partner at Khosla Ventures
