Chinese envoy hails development of ties with Cape Verde

The Chinese envoy in Cape Verde on Thursday hailed the development of ties and cooperation with the African country on the occasion of the 37th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Chinese Ambassador to Cape Verde Su Jian told the Cape Verdian newspaper "Expresso da Ilhas" that bilateral cooperation has been developing for 37 years with positive results being witnessed in many fields.

Sun said the cooperation features short-term training courses, medical assistance, technical cooperation, supply of materials, scholarships and humanitarian aid.

China's support for infrastructure in the African country covers a series of projects, including water dams, public buildings, the national stadium, libraries, auditoriums, schools, housing units and a hospital.

China has also donated to the island nation vehicles, medical equipment, medicine, farming tools, sports' kits and military training kits.

"In addition, there is a group of youths who, after training in China, are today contributing to Cape Verde's development," the ambassador said, adding that currently, there are about 100 Cape Verdian students studying in China.

Cape Verde is an island country, spanning an archipelago of 10 islands located in the central Atlantic Ocean, 570 km off the coast of West Africa. The islands, covering a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square km are of volcanic origin. The country has an estimated population of 500,000.
