50 Years of Bond Style

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the James Bond movie series, Minsheng Art Museum is holding an exhibition entitled 50 Years of Bond Style as a tribute to the classic British agent 007 and his legion of fans. A total number of 548 exhibits from the 23 movies will be showcased, including documents, props, costumes, weapons, vehicles and photographs for the original movies.

Tension of Contrast

Danish artist Christina Julsgaard is also a fashion designer. She uses joyful colors in her abstract paintings to force the graphic tensions between squares, stripes, black heavy strokes and splashes with fine lines of ink. This is the artist's first solo exhibition in Shanghai, and in which she attaches poetry and imagination to her art.

Katarzyna Musial Piano Recital

Accomplished Polish-Canadian pianist Katarzyna Musial has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Her playing was described by New York Concert Review as "a pure delight ... wonderfully evocative ... vividly detailed ... interpretation that plumbed emotional depths with harmonic coloring." In addition to winning many awards, Musial won first prize at the 2011 Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition in New York. She has also performed at Carnegie Hall, at the Vancouver Olympic Games and at the Tempietto Festival Musicale della Nazioni (Rome), as well as hosting concerto performances with many world-renowned orchestras.

Sandy Lam Shanghai Concert

Sandy Lam, also known as Lam Yik Lin, is a Cantopop singer who sings in Cantonese, Mandarin, English and Japanese. Born in 1966 in Hong Kong, she began her singing career at the age of 18. She gained popularity throughout the Mandarin-speaking world with her debut release "Home Again Without You" in 1991. In 2001, Lam appeared in the Beijing leg of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Masterpiece, which also featured West End and Broadway star Elaine Paige and best-selling recording artist Kris Phillips.

Forever Yin Xueyan

After the huge success of the adapted plays The Peony Pavilion and The Story of a Hairpin, the Taiwan playwright Pai Hsien-yung has unveiled his new drama Forever Yin Xueyan, which is adapted from his own novella. The music drama will be performed in Shanghai dialect. The director Xu Jun said he would like to show the true spirit and value of Shanghai in this play, as well as the glamour of Shanghai dialect and culture.

Outdoor Music Concert

Last year, the Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden held its first outdoor music concert in April which was warmly received. This year, the Prague Symphony Orchestra will perform at the garden for Shanghai music lovers. The program will include film scores from Star Wars and Harry Potter, songs from musicals The Phantom of the Opera and Cats, as well as classical works such as Strauss' Blue Danube, Op.314 and Beethoven's Symphony No.7 in A Major, Op.92, 4th Movement.

Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse

The Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse acts as both a symphony orchestra whose main residence is Toulouse's Halle aux Grains, and the permanent orchestra of the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse. The orchestra rose to prominence during Michel Plasson's tenure as music director, from 1968 to 2003. Within 12 years, the orchestra had improved enough to earn the term "national" in its name, which it acquired in 1980. In 2011 the French national paper Le Figaro reviewed the top 25 orchestras in France listing the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse in the top three.

Nightlife

The Dodos China Tour

The American indie rock band The Dodos will be visiting China this month, and Shanghai will be the first stop of the tour. Founded in 2005 in California, the band consists of two members, vocalist and guitar player Meric Long and drummer Logan Kroeber. The band has released four albums and its hits include "Red and Purple," "Fools," "Fables," " "Companions" and "Good."

Jazz Concert Sing Twice

Belgian musician Eric Legnini is one of the most talented artists on the international jazz scene, known for his diversified musical styles including soul and afro beat. Together with his band and the English crooner, Hugh Coltman, Legnini's concert will feature a string of jazz tunes that will delight music lovers. The concert will feature Fender Rhodes on piano, Franck Agulhon on drums, and Thomas Bramerie on double bass.
