American President Obama appeared to be a regular customer of an Internet café in Jinan, Shandong Province, after a manager at the café forged an identity card in his name to help customers easily register to surf the Internet in public according to Chinese regulations.
The card had a full-face picture of the US leader listing his correct birthday, his ethnicity as Kenyan, and even his home address as "White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC," according to police. The details were stuck to the front of a real Chinese ID card lost by its holder in 2010, so that when it was scanned or checked by the computer system, it didn't appear as a fake.
China requires Chinese customers to register with their ID cards at Internet cafés, in an effort to strengthen Internet security management and prevent people under 18 from illegally visiting Internet cafés.
The card was returned to its holder and the manager was fined 1,000 yuan ($160).
