AC Milan beat Friends 4 Kaladze in farewell match

Old timers of various AC Milan squads on Friday came from behind to defeat Friends 4 Kaladze in a farewell match held for the namesake Georgian deputy prime minister and energy minister.

Kakha Kaladze, who played for the Italian Serie A club between 2001 and 2010, played for AC Milan in the first half and donned Friends 4 Kaladze shirt in the second half.

George Demetradze put the Friends 4 Kaladze on the scoreboard first at the 26th minute to loud applause from a weekend turnout crowd but Filipo Inzagi, Andriy Shevchenko and Pietro Vierchowod each found the net once in the ensuing half to turn the tables.

Such big AC Milan names as Paolo Maldini, Rui Costa, Sebastiano Rossi, Franco Baresi, Mathieu Flamini, Dario Simic, Serginho and Valerio Fiori also played in the farewell match.

Kakha Kaladze, now 35, has been a household toast in Georgia for his 83 appearances in the country's national eleven but also for his 284 appearances in AC Milan with 13 goals from a full-back position.

"I would like to express my gratitude to Georgian fans for their support and passion they expressed over me," Kakha Kaladze said before his farewell match slated for later Friday. "Most years of my career was spent in foreign clubs but I always felt the warmth and backing from my compatriots. I promise to all my supporters that I always would be the defender of dignity of Georgia and together we will make a lot of victories."

Playing against the visiting AC Milan side was the team known as Friends 4 Kaladze consisting of Kakha Kaladze's former playmates in the Georgian national squads and the Ukrainian Dynamo Kyiv club.

Sales from the farewell match tickets will be donated to charity activities in Georgia, organizers said.

On the side of the Georgian deputy prime minister were Zviad Sturua, Malkhaz Asatiani, Murtaz Shelia, Levan Kobiashvili, Andrey Husin, Umit Davala, Davit Mujiri, Levan Tskitishvili, Fabio Cannavaro, Hakan Sukur, Serhiy Rebrov, Achi Arveladze, George Demetradze, Alexander Iashvili, and George Kinkladze.

Coaching AC Milan visitors were Cesare Maldini and Carlo Ancelotti and coaching the Georgian side were Alexander Chivadze and Fatih Temir.
