The 20th Asian Athletics Championships came to a close on Sunday after five days of fierce competition in Indian western city of Pune.
China won 16 of the 42 titles on offer, followed by Bahrain winning five. The final overall medals table reads China on 27 medals, followed by Japan with 20.
Japan won a total of four medals in this championships and fell to the third place from the second in all-medal tally at the last Asian championships.
The highlight is men's short run. In this championships, Jiang Fan continued his strength in men's 110m hurdles, winning the gold medal in 13.61 seconds.
Su Bingtian, beat Asian record holder Samuels Francis of Qatar and succeeded in defending his championship in men's 100m run in 10.17 seconds.
Young athlete Xie Zhenye also added to surprise of the Chinese team, clocking 20.87 seconds to win men's 200m run.
In other items, 16-year-old Wang Jianan won gold medal in long jump; Xue Changrui claimed men's pole vault title; Cao Shuo won men's triple jump and Bi Xiaoliang added one gold medal in men's high jump.
Female athletes gave people more surprises, winning nine out of 16 gold medals for the Chinese team.
Among theses titles, Wei Yongli is undoubtedly major attraction, as she beat Japanese veteran runner in women's 100m run in 11.29 seconds. Besides, she also won a gold medal in women's 4x100m relay with three other Chinese female runners, clocking 44.01 seconds.
In the long-distance race, Zhao Minyan won women's 400m in 52. 49 seconds; Wang Chunyu won champion title in women's 800m.
In the fields race, Chinese female athletes set three new records: Li Lingwei's 60.65 meters in women's javelin, Li Ling's 4.54 meters in women's pole vault and Wang Zheng's 72.78 meters in women's hammer throw.
All together 20 out of 43 participating countries and regions bagged medals in this year's Asian championships.
The 20th Asian Athletics Championships, the first major track and field meet in 2009, commenced in Pune, India, on Wednesday July 3. A total of 580 athletes competed in the five-day event. The champions here directly get the qualification to attend World Athletics Championships to be held in Moscow in August.
