A student at Qingdao Agricultural University in Shandong Province was lucky to escape serious injury after a ceiling fan fell on her, hit her head and knocked out power to her classroom and nearby rooms - leaving people concerned about the safety of school facilities.
Due to the hot weather, the ceiling fan in the classroom where the unnamed student and her peers were studying was on high before it suddenly came down, cutting into her ear as she tried to duck out of the way. However, she sustained only a minor wound from the incident reported on July 11 by Qingdao-based paper City Sun.
Web users have been surprised by what they described as a "nightmare come true," saying that when they were students, they constantly feared that their classroom's ceiling fan would drop on them. Others said that they are now afraid to sit below ceiling fans.
Meanwhile, students have accused the university of not conducting proper maintenance on the fans, saying that a loose bracket between the fan and the ceiling had caused the accident.
The school has responded to the safety concerns of students by carrying out a general check on classroom facilities.
