A new flak-like spraying machine has been rolled out in Daqing, Heilongjiang Province to kill mosquitoes as the pests continue to persist this summer.
Resembling the barrel of a cannon, the machine is placed on vehicles and can spray mosquitocide as far as 48 meters. It contains a container that can store up to 400 liters of mosquitocide, which is able to cover an area of up to 11,000 square meters after operating for 40 minutes. Once sprayed, the mosquitocide can remain effective for 20 to 30 days.
Local authorities have been praised for the implementation of the machine as the mosquito situation in Daqing has become more severe this summer compared to previous years due to recent heavy rains leading to increased multiplication of mosquitoes in the area.
The "weapon" has amused many local residents, who find it funny that a "cannon" is being used to attack mosquitoes, likening the action to a Chinese saying that means "to make a great fuss over nothing."
Web users from various parts of the country also gave the machine a thumbs-up, wondering when authorities in their hometowns would launch the use of such equipment, saying that they, too, wanted relief from the pesky mosquitoes.
