While performing a cesarean in Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province, doctors were astonished to discover a sewing needle in the woman's body. 

Fangfang (pseudonym), 25, later recalled swallowing a needle when she was 5 years old, which solved doctors' puzzlement at the bizarre item they discovered inside her belly, reported the Nanjing-based Modern Express on August 14. She told her parents, but since she seemed to be in no distress they didn't worry about it.

The medical team extracted the needle from beside the woman's uterus, but said that she was very lucky that the injury had not become infected over the years.

"The needle, which was about 4 cm long, had turned black and totally rusted. But it's lucky the needle didn't penetrate through the uterine cavity which could have hurt the baby, " said one doctor from the hospital, adding that "It's really a miracle that despite the needle shifting position by nearly a meter over the two decades, she didn't become infected."
