A small boy sustained minor injuries after a water jet suddenly blasted him two meters into the air while playing in an outdoor fountain in southwestern Hubei Province on August 1.
The child suffered cuts on the nose and mouth after the fountain geyser sent him in an upward flip with such a force it partially ripped off his clothes, reports news portal cnhubei.com.
The installed musical fountain, located in the mountainous Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture's newly-built cultural center, utilizes dozens of high-pressure water jets timed to music and lights.
The boy was playing in the center of the fountain, where the largest water jet is located, when it suddenly went off. The boy sustained his injuries after hitting the concrete, said the report.
The water display has quickly become a favorite hangout for local children looking for relief from the summer heat despite posted signs warning against playing in the fountain.
This summer has witnessed several accidents at fountains, including electric shocks and jet impact injuries. There is no mention whether the boy's parents will seek compensation for damages.
