Typhoon Wutip has claimed at least eight lives, injured 199 people, and left two others missing in central Vietnam, said the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control on Wednesday.
As many as 372 houses were collapsed or swept away, over 25,780 were inundated and other 194,137 had their roofs blown off. Up to 16,000 hectares of rice and other crops were destroyed.
According to the committee's initial report, the total damage is estimated to be around 4.9 trillion Vietnamese dong (232 million US dollars).
The National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting said the provinces of Nghe An, Binh Dinh and northern parts of central highland provinces had been put on high alert for floods and landslides.
