Beijing and Seoul jointly held a " China Day" event on Saturday in South Korea's capital city to mark the 20th anniversary of their sister city relations.
During the opening ceremony of the event, Chinese ambassador to South Korea Zhang Xinsen and Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon added the finishing touch to eyes of a Chinese model dragon together, which is a Chinese tradition expressing the two cities' profound friendship.
"In today's event, Chinese martial arts and South Korean taekwondo are performed at the same stage; Chinese Lanzhou-made beef noodles and South Korean kimchi are made at the same time. It is a stage combining the two cultures perfectly and a party bringing citizen of the two sides together," said Zhang Xinsen.
Park Won-soon said Seoul and Beijing have long communicated with each other actively in terms of administration, transportation and e-government affairs. Seoul has lots of Chinese enterprises and 20,000 Chinese students, demonstrating a deeper relationship the two enjoyed than others.
Chinese artists performed a series of Chinese traditional dances, acrobatics and Chinese martial arts at the event, winning warm applauses and screams from the South Korean audience.
Activities in this year's "China Day" also include playing traditional Chinese games, tasting Chinese cuisine and trying on traditional Chinese clothes.
A 300-member delegation, headed by Beijing's Vice Mayor Yang Xiaochao,arrived in Seoul on Wednesday to attend the ceremony marking "Beijing Week."
During the celebration period, the two metropolises held their first plenary session of the integration council to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation in various fields such as the economy, culture and education.
Seoul and Beijing in April decided to establish the Seoul- Beijing Integration Council to boost bilateral exchanges in various fields, which is the first city-level integration council in the world.
Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon has also visited Beijing for the " Seoul Week" this April.
