Kenya will enter a team of 12 swimmers at the Africa Junior Swimming Championships, which will be staged in Lusaka, Zambia at the end of November.

The event will act as one of the continents's qualifying competitions for the Nanjing World Youth Olympics in August 2014.

"We have a strong team and we will be expecting good results. But there will be strong challenge from Southern countries and Algeria or Egypt," Kenya Swimming Federation's Secretary Winnie Kamau told journalists in Nairobi on Monday.

Kenya's quest to discover heir apparent to the throne left by Dunford brothers, Jason and David, will be reviewed as it plans to enter a team to the Africa Junior Swimming Championship.

Zambia will play host to over 200 young swimmers from over 20 countries in Africa as they seek to discover new talents for the aquatic sport, which will be held in Lusaka from Nov. 28 to Dec. 1. Kamau said the country has picked on young swimmers based on merit.

Algeria, South Africa, Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya and Egypt will join hosts Zambia in battle for bragging rights when the Africa Junior Swimming Championship starts in Lusaka. The young competition is organized by the Confederation of Aquatic Nations' Association (CANA).

Guy Phiri, the chairman of the competition organizing committee, said Zambia will stage a successful event after getting the hosting rights from Egypt, who failed to assure CANA of team's security in Alexandra owing to the political unrest in their country.

The Africa Junior Swimming Championships will be used as a qualifier event for next year's Nanjing Youth Olympics.

Algeria has already confirmed it will enter 18 swimmers, including seven girls. Rwanda expects stiff competition from South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Egypt and Algeria during the event.

Kenya on its part has already named 36 team, which will be wilted down to 12 for the competition.
