Wang Chengkuai made his debut for Dutch club Ajax on Monday, in a reserve match against De Graafschap, becoming the first Chinese to play for the Amsterdam-based club.
Wang, 18, who joined the Eredivisie side in a two-year contract in October, played for 63 minutes as one of the starting lineup in Monday's game. But Ajax reserves failed to make a revival as they suffered their seventh straight loss with a 1-2 defeat to De Graafschap.
"I was a little bit nervous … I didn't expect to play as a starter until the coach told me," Wang said via the official Ajax website. "I'm not very satisfied with my performance today, I can do better. It's really a pity to lose the game at home."
Wang is also the second Chinese to play for a top club in the Netherlands following Sun Xiang who played for PSV Eindhoven in the 2006-07 season. Sun even became the first Chinese to play in the European Champions League as he appeared in PSV's match against Arsenal that season.
