Zimbabwe's veteran President Robert Mugabe has flown to Singapore to attend his daughter's graduation ceremony, state media reported Thursday, refuting the speculation that the 89-year-old leader has gone for another overseas medical trip.
Bona Mugabe, 24, will be graduating this Saturday from a university in Singapore with a Masters' Degree in Banking and Finance, the state newspaper The Herald said in an online report.
Mugabe and his wife Grace Mugabe will attend the graduation ceremony before flying to Kuwait for the Arab-African Summit next week.
He also revealed last month that he had also planned Bona's wedding after her graduation.
Mugabe, who has ruled Zimbabwe since independence in 1980, is Africa's oldest leader. A former primary school teacher, he is also considered one of the most read African leaders, with seven university degrees -- including three he earned through correspondence while in jail.
Mugabe won again in the presidential race in July this year, adding another five years to his 33-year rule. Despite wild speculations on his health, Mugabe said he would serve the full term until he is 94 in 2018. Mugabe's spokesman said the octogenarian leader had only mild eye ailment. He has been in Singapore a couple of times to have the eyes checked after a cataract operation there in 2011.
