GM Korea, the local unit of US automaker General Motors, planned to recall thousands of Tosca LPG vehicles due to defective pressure sensor in the vaporizer that can lead to an engine turnoff, Seoul's transportation ministry said Friday.

A total of 14,261 "Tosca 2.0 LPG" passenger cars produced between May 29, 2007 and March 30, 2009 will be subject to the recall, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The ministry said that defects in the model's vaporizer pressure sensor or idle air control valve can cause turnoff of the vehicle's engine. The vaporizer is an instrument to turn liquefied natural gas into real gas, while the idle air control valve stabilizes an engine's idle speed.

The Tosca, manufactured by GM Korea's predecessor GM Daewoo, has been marketed globally as the Chevrolet Epica.

Meanwhile, Audi Volkswagen Korea, the local importer of the German cars, was ordered to recall a total of 3,571 Tiguan 2.0 TDI and Tiguan 2.0 TSI vehicles manufactured between April 2008 and May 2011. Those subject to the recall had defective headlights, fog lamps and turn signal lamps caused by problems in fuse wiring.

Five models, including Golf 1.4 TSI, Golf 1.6 TDI BMT, Golf A7 1.6 TDI BMT, Jetta 1.6 TDI BMT and Polo 1.6 TDI, had defective transmission caused by disconnected fuse, leading the models to lose power, the ministry said. The number subject to recall was 1, 985 units.
