At least three people including a police officer were killed and nine others injured on Friday evening when a blast targeted a police vehicle in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi, local media and officials said.

Local police officials said that the incident took place when a bomb blast targeted the vehicle of a police officer Shafiq Tanoli in the Purani Sabzi Mandi area of Karachi, killing two policemen and a child.

According to the reports, Tanoli was going to his home along with three gunmen when the miscreants attacked his vehicle.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and injured to the Jinnah Hospital of the city where some of the injured were reportedly in critical condition.

The bomb disposal squad said that around 2-3 kilograms of explosives were used in the bomb that was planted in a motorcycle and was detonated with a remote controlled device.

The blast destroyed the vehicle completely besides damaging nearby shops and houses.

Tanoli was reputed as the competent police officer who had conducted some successful operations against terrorists in the city.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
