The Egyptian Foreign Ministry summoned on Monday Iranian Ambassador Mojtaba Amani, head of the Iranian Interests Office in Cairo, over Iranian recent official statements expressing concerns about Egypt's security crackdown on Islamist protesters, a source at the Egyptian Foreign Ministry told Xinhua.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said Saturday that "Iran is concerned about the surge of violence as a result of conflict between security forces and demonstrators in Egypt."
The remarks have been considered as interference in the Egyptian domestic affairs.
On a similar occasion, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry summoned on Saturday the Qatari ambassador to Cairo to express rejection of a recent official statement in Doha lashing out at Egypt's leadership for disengaging the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist group.
