The former Rwandan army chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Charles Kayonga has been appointed as the ambassador to China, an official source revealed Tuesday.

The state-run Radio Rwanda quoted a presidential decree approved during a cabinet meeting, saying the senior military officer perceived as close to Rwandan President Paul Kagame, will reside in Beijing.

The former ambassador Francois Ngarambe has been transferred to Switzerland.
