Nepal's President Ram Baran Yadav has appointed Damodar Prasad Sharma as a new Chief Justice of Supreme Court (SC), the President's office said on Friday.

Sharma served as Acting Chief Justice for one year after his predecessor Khil Raj Regmi became chairman of the government March last year. According to Interim Constitution 2007, President shall appoint and administer the oath of office and secrecy to the chief justice of SC.

The Parliament Special Hearing Committee endorsed Sharma's name as chief justice though some complaints were filed against him. Sharma should have to give a long explanation to clear the charges against him.

The complaints, including corruption in judiciary and nepotism, were lodged against him. Sharma was born on Oct. 10, 1949 and joined judicial service of Nepal in 1974.
