It's always surprising and exciting to view the works of Geng Xue, the young Chinese artist who rose to fame in 2007 with her sculptures of the characters from the painting The Night Revels of Han Xizai by Gu Hongzhong (approx: 910-80).

Her recently unveiled solo exhibition, Mr Sea, at the Zero Art Center in Beijing's 798 Art Zone marks an important comeback for the artist. The centerpiece of the exhibition is a film, after which the exhibition is named, based on a story from Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) writer Pu Songling's Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio. Showing her enthusiasm for porcelain, the story in the film takes place in a forest on an isolated island in a world made of porcelain.

Additionally, Geng's recent works including photographs, paintings and other short-films are also on display. Li Mowei, curator of the Zero Art Center, stated that the center intends to continue supporting young talented artist like Geng in the future.

The exhibition, curated by Xia Yanguo, will end on June 6.
