Nepal's first children's art museum officially opened its doors on Wednesday, providing a creative and educational platform to the country's new generation.

The objective of the museum is to revalue art education in Nepal by proposing hands-on creative experiences to children, encouraging literacy through art and empowering youth.

Art in Nepal still struggles to be recognized as a key part of children's development.

"In Nepal we needed a space where art and education come together in a very informal way. We are trying to make learning fun by adding art to it and by letting children's imagination go wild," Sneha Shrestha, founder-president of Nepal Children's Art Museum (NCAM), told Xinhua.

Using art as a learning tool, NCAM collaborates with local artists and several community organizations to promote creativity as a vital part of young people's social, emotional, and cultural development.

"We let children explore; there are no directions, no right colors, but most activities tackle specific social issues," Pranjali Singh, program coordinator at NCAM, told Xinhua.

The museum started out with a two-room space that serves as an exhibition space and an education room with a mini library and a workshop space fully stocked with art supplies.
