A woman convicted of twice snipping off segments of her husband's penis with scissors and flushing some of it down the toilet was sentenced to five years in prison on Sunday in Yiwu, Zhejiang Province.

Surnamed Zhang, 30, the woman was first detained on June 7, 2013 when she drugged her husband's drink with sleeping pills and sheared off a chunk of his genitals and flushed it as he slept.

Her husband surnamed Han called police after coming to and discovering the mutilation.

Han later told the court that Zhang had suspected him of cheating and the attack was an act of revenge. However, Zhang was released on bail a week later. 

Zhang's ongoing suspicions and resentment over his divorce request drove her once again to hack at Han's member on September 25, 2013, this time throwing the clipping on the floor.

Zhang called an ambulance and turned herself in to police.

"I knew I was going to jail. But if I cut more of his penis, he would not find other women," Zhang told officers.

The court found Zhang mentally fit to stand trial.

Han explained the couple had been together since Zhang was 16 years old. They moved from Anhui Province five years ago for work and have two sons.

Han told the court he forgave his wife and requested a lenient sentence.
