Although many products on store shelves bare Amway's imprimatur of quality and excellence, it is never fully appreciated until witnessing the efforts of workers at Amway's plant in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.
An impressive state of the art factory established in 1995, the Guangzhou plant has expanded and developed over the years to become Amway's largest overseas plant.
The plant itself does not resemble a manufacturing plant in the traditional sense, with a tropical garden and flowing water set up in the main lobby. If not for workers passing by, it would be easy to forget you were actually in a factory at all; a factory that produces many popular household products from Nutrilite Protein Powder to eSpring Water Purifiers.
The Amway China Exhibition Hall is an impressive center located in the plant that recounts the history of the company and the ethos behind its success.
With the world's very first brand image display center, visitors have the chance to learn through images and videos about the four footstones in Amway's culture: freedom, hope, family and reward.
A noticeable factor of Amway's history and development is its connection with China via Nutrilite, a product that was bought by Amway and became a signature product for the company.
In 1915, Carl Rehnborg, founder of Nutrilite, arrived in China where he would spend the next 12 years. It was during Rehnborg's time in China that he was inspired by Chinese traditional medicine and the philosophy behind it.
In 1934, after returning to the US, Rehnborg succeeded in inventing the first nutritional supplement product in the US which he would later call Nutrilte, a product that became a part of Amway in 1972.
The production house is run in an industrious manner, never without workers at machines going about their daily tasks, everyone playing their part. All imported from European countries and the US, the machines are manned by the skilled workers of Guangdong Province.
Required to dress in overalls and with special sterilization protection, workers must meticulously check each product that passes through the several phases of the production line, ensuring that only products of the highest standards are stamped with the Amway seal of quality.
So keen are Amway on maintaining their hard-earned reputation, that they have built a separate quality inspection center to inspect products one last time before they reach local store shelves.
With such commitment to the finer details, customers of Amway can rest assure that any Amway item they place in their shopping basket is one where quality is ensured.
