After finishing production in the UK, the staff and cast of the movie adaptation of popular Hong Kong TV series Triumph in the Skies returned to China to share some clips from the movie at a press conference on Monday in Beijing.
Ten years after the success of the first season of Hong Kong based Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB)'s Triumph in the Skies, a show about an airline crew that works for a fictional airline, the show's return for a second season last year proved highly popular. Following this success, earlier this year, TVB announced plans to adapt the series into a movie that while also taking place on planes and at airports would tell its own story separate from the show.
Some characters, such as the captains Samuel Tong (Francis Ng) and Jaydon Cool (Julian Cheung), will also appear in the film, but will be involved with brand new romantic interests. Charmaine Sheh, Louis Koo, Amber Kuo and Sammi Cheng also star.
At the conference, Sheh told media that the stewardess she plays in the movie is different from the roles she has played in the past, including the one she played in the recent TVB crime drama Line Walker.
"She will fall deeply and painfully in love," she said.
Amber Kuo, who also starred in the movie series Tiny Times, admitted that as one of the few Putonghua (standard Chinese) speaking cast members, communicating with her Cantonese-speaking partners during shooting was a challenge, but luckily she received help from Cheung.
Unlike the TV series, due to time restraints the film will not feature many scenes showing pilot and air crew training.
"They are already well-trained, so we can jump directly to seeing how they work and enjoy their lives in the movie," said Matt Chow, the film's script writers.
"The TV version of Triumph in the Skies is a model production for TVB that is held in high esteem by many Hong Kong TV fans... We won't fail fans of the series," said Tommy Leung, the film's producer.
