A United States armored battalion will be rotated into South Korea within this month to replace the unit returning back to the US mainland, the US Forces Korea ( USFK) said Wednesday.
The 3rd battalion of 8th cavalry regiment of the US Army will be deployed to Camps Hovey and Stanley in South Korea within October from Fort Hood, Texas, the USFK said in a statement.
The armored battalion is the fourth US Army rotational unit to be deployed to South Korea for nine months.
It will bring about 800 soldiers to replace its sister unit, the 1st battalion of the 12th cavalry regiment which has been deployed to South Korea since February 2013.
The 1st battalion is scheduled to return to Fort Hood after it transfers its responsibilities to the incoming unit. The US Army schedules and deploys forces on a rotational basis to South Korea.
