A young Chinese mixed doubles pair, Liu Yuchen/Luo Yu, suffered a first round exit at the French Open badminton tournament on Tuesday.
The duo, both born in the 1990s, were beaten 22-20, 13-21, 21-19 by Japanese Hirokatsu Hashimoto and Miyuki Maeda at the opening day of the World Superseries event.
A week ago Liu and Luo trashed the same Japanese pair in straight sets in the Denmark Open first round.
Two Chinese pairs, Liu Cheng/Bao Yixin and Lu Kai/Huang Yaqiong, made it through to the second round of 16 pairs.
The day one also saw Chinese Chen Yuekun and Xue Song qualified for the men's singles draw.
Chen beat Finland's Ville Lang and Russia's Vladimir Malkov, while Xue held off Hong Kong player Chan Yan Kit and Singapore's Wong Zi Liang.
Chinese super star Lin Dan, the world top-ranked Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia, Olympic mixed doubles winners Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei all withdrew from the 275,000 US dollars event held at Pierre de Coubertin Stadium on Oct. 21-26.
