The destroyed roads, the debris left by the mud-rock flows and mudslides, and row upon row of shelters could be seen everywhere on the way from Kunming to Ludian, which had given us enough mental preparation for the difficulties in the disaster area, Ludian. But we were still deeply shocked when arriving at the Queluo Primary School in Huodehong town with the volunteers and Geely owners on September 22th. And also, there was a special volunteer who felt the same way—Li Jinyu, the former striker of the Chinese national football team and the scoring record-holder in the Chinese Super League.

This was the Queluo Village in Huodehong Town of Ludian County. Above the entrance gate we could see a banner which vaguely wrote a poem telling the origin of the name "Queluo". While the earthquake on August 3rd, 2014 broke all the poetic tranquility, and a 66-year-old man from the grocery outside the school told us what happened during the earthquake.

On that day, he and his wife were on guard in the empty school because the students were on the vacation. When the earthquake struck, he saw the whole world was shaking and the bricks were falling down from the school buildings. There was no signal on either the television or the telephone. He and his wife had difficulties running out, but fortunately, they survived because their house didn't collapse.

However, the school buildings were seriously damaged. Under the temporary board houses we could see the severely destroyed teacher dormitory in a heap of ruin, which would be dismantled for safety. While the dilapidated teaching building could neither be used or torn down, above which only the teaching slogan and the five-star red flag flying aloft could be clearly seen. Fortunately, the canteen built by the state survived the earthquake where the children could still have lunch.

The only playground in the school, which was just a relatively flat field on the top of the mountain, had already been occupied by the temporary board houses. The roofs of the houses almost touched the basket of the only basketball stand, which meant that the students could never have PE classes after the earthquake. To help those children realize their sports dreams was just the aim of the "HOPE Green Track Initiative" jointly launched by Geely and 21st Century Business Herald. The volunteers brought the basic equipments of basketball and football, while the children put on the red scarves on their necks to extend their gratitude.

Li Jinyu and the volunteers all had mixed feelings when looking at the innocent smiling faces of the children. They were suffering from the sorrow brought by the earthquake, but at the same time dreaming of the better days to come. They had a hard time walking to school for 4 hours every day, but still leaped with joy when seeing their idol. "I want to thank Geely and 21st Century Business Herald for giving me this glorious trip. I also want to thank the rural teachers for their selflessness and dedication. Besides donating equipment and teaching them football, I really hope do more things for the children," said Li Jinyu.

The long-expected football open class finally started. Although unable to tell all the names of the children, the first-time teacher Li Jinyu earnestly taught the basic knowledge of football, and demonstrated juggling, dribbling and shooting by himself. Under the instruction of Li, the children were doing every movement standardly and showing a strong athletic talent.

A short day of voluntary teaching was soon passed, and Li Jinyu was going to leave these lovely children. They were reluctant to see him go away and surrounded him in circles. It was a pity that not all the faces were included in this photo, but they were all full of gratitude and hope.

The volunteers would give voluntary teaching in Queluo Primary School for a week, then they would head for the next stop of the "HOPE Green Track Initiative" in Shanxi Province.
