A burglar who returned stolen luxury goods from an apartment in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province was handed a six-year jail sentence, media reported Wednesday.
The burglar surnamed Tian and his accomplice in April made off with around 370,000 yuan ($60,528) in cash, two Cartier rings and two luxury watches, including a Patek Philippe timepiece valued at 252,160 yuan.
The accomplice surnamed Chen, who urged Tian to return the goods, will serve one year behind bars and pay a 1,000 yuan fine, reported news portal jinbaonet.com.
According to the report, the burglars had broken into different apartments in the same building. Chen did not steal anything, and after seeing Tian's score, urged him to return the jewelry to avoid a severe punishment. The pair, however, kept around 13,000 yuan in stolen cash.
Despite Tian returning the watches and rings the next day, the local procuratorate of Yinzhou district in Ningbo convicted Tian of grand larceny in accordance with the Criminal Law.
