The Chinese version of US reality show The Amazing Race has been viewed a total of more than 300 million times on streaming video site Sohu TV since the first episode aired on Shenzhen TV on October 17.
The reality show, co-produced by Shenzhen TV and Sohu TV, features a number of stars including Wallace Chung, Pax Congo, Guan Xiaotong and Liu Yun, who team up to travel to several countries and regions where they must compete against each other in completing various tasks.
The show is an example of Sohu's attempt this year to bring content production and broadcasting platforms closer together.
As part of a major advertising campaign for the show, Sohu TV has also been releasing interviews with the cast to help promote the show.
Sohu TV CEO Zhang Chaoyang revealed that he feels Sohu TV's in-depth partnership with Shenzhen TV has proven successful, as The Amazing Race has performed extremely well in the ratings while also becoming a hotly debated topic on social media. Zhang also unveiled that Sohu TV will focus more on reality shows in the future.
"We learned a lot from the overseas version, but we also want to localize the show further. We've also had great success airing the show on TV channels while also streaming it online," Zhang added.
