Argentina's president mocked Chinese accents in a tweet on Wednesday during a visit to China, triggering quick responses on both Chinese and foreign social media.
President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner posted the tweet on Wednesday while at an event with Chinese President
Xi Jinping and 1,000 attendees held to promote trade and investment between the two nations.
In the message, she deliberately switched the Ls and Rs in some words to mimic a Chinese accent.
"Are they all with La Cámpola?" she posted in Spanish on Twitter, referencing her party's youth organization, La Campora. "Or, are they only there for the lice (rice) and petloleum (petroleum)?"
The post was retweeted more than 1,000 times in less than an hour. Net users across the world were quick jump on Kirchner's comment.
The president's tweet also sparked widespread criticism on Chinese social media.
"Do you think it is appropriate for a president to say something like that?" wrote a Sina Weibo user.
