The latest movie by Chinese film company Huayi Brothers, The Wonderful Wedding is set to come to the big screen in the Chinese mainland this Friday, according to a press conference for the film in Beijing on Monday.

A huge hit in Taiwan, the film earned 200 million NT$ ($6.37 million) at the box office over the Chinese New Year holidays.

The comedy, starring Taiwanese actress Ruby Lin and mainland actor Li Dongxue, centers on the wedding of a cross-straits couple and the fallout that comes as both families try to come to terms with differences in culture.

The father of the bride, Li Jinshuang (played by Chu Ke-liang) is loath to part with his daughter, and therefore becomes extremely picky about everything his mainland son-in-law-to-be (Li) d0es. 

At the press conference, veteran actor Kou Shixun, who plays the father of the groom, said that weddings are really not a matter between two people, but rather an important event between two families. As such people need to find ways to discuss issues peacefully and considerately.  

Also at the press conference, director Huang Chaoliang said he hoped that the film will bring happiness and laughter to audiences in the mainland as it did in Taiwan.
