Nothing says love is a gamble like a mahjong wedding.

A couple in Wuhan, Hubei Province decided to celebrate their love for each other recently with a lavish wedding themed around the game of chance that brought them together three years ago.

"Meeting you was the best hand I'd ever gotten," the 25-year-old bride surnamed Yang told guests.

Other mahjong references included the groom, surnamed Li, presenting Yang with a single oversized die, and guests giving the newlyweds red, green and white mahjong tiles.

Yang described how Li, a very experienced player, was invited by a mutual friend to join the game where they first met.

"I'm not very good at mahjong and play pretty slowly. While the others were telling me to hurry up, [Li] was different. He would help analyze the game for me."

Li praised how Yang remained calm under pressure. "Her personality showed in how she played," Li said.

Li and Yang said they had reservations about the gambling-themed ceremony at first, but were surprised that their parents were game.
