Ju Anqi's film Poet on a Business Trip was screened for the first time in China on Sunday at the One-way Street Bookstore in Beijing. First beginning work on the film in 2002 Ju, the film's sole director, scriptwriter and cinematographer, finally finished the film in 2014. The 12-year project won Best Asian Film at the International Film Festival Rotterdam that year, as well as grand prize in the International Competition at the 16th Jeonju International Film Festival in May.

"Traveling between the landscape and the human world, unsure if it is insanity or a trance," a poster for the film summarizes the movie's themes. The film follows a poet, played by Chinese poet Shu, as he writes 16 poems during a trip from Beijing to the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.

Well known for his use of film language Ju's films are often used as examples in classes at art colleges. Like these other films, Poet on a Business Trip is hard to define.

The jury statement at the International Film Festival Rotterdam called the film "a courageous film about a journey of discovery, constructed through poetry and the physical body, its honesty imbues it with a poignant humanity. With its unique hybrid of documentary and fiction, it shows us a China that has since changed drastically offering a sharp commentary on the present geopolitical situation."
