Thomas Schaaf has stood down as coach of Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt after a ninth-place finish this season, the German club announced Tuesday.

The 54-year-old Schaaf had only been in charge for one year, having replaced Armin Veh on a three-year contract.

According to Kicker and Sport Bild, Schaaf decided to walk away from the job because he felt he was not getting the backing he wanted from the club's board.

He was the second Bundesliga manager to resign Tuesday shortly after Roberto di Matteo's decision to leave Schalke after a poor season.

A poor run of results saw Schalke surrender a direct spot in the Champions League and Saturday's 2-0 defeat to strugglers Hamburg left them sixth in the table and in the Europa League next season.
