Nippon Paint supports "Our Hawker Centers – A Heritage & Art Project" to create murals and art installations in more than 40 hawker centers in Singapore.

Nippon Paint Singapore has rolled out an exclusively designed SG50 paint can to commemorate Singapore’s 50th Anniversary.

August 9, 2015 - also known as SG50 - marks the 50th anniversary of Singapore's independence, and Nippon Paint Singapore is celebrating in style with its CSR (corporate social responsibility) initiatives.

In April the company began collaborating with Singapore's National Environment Agency (NEA), National Heritage Board (NHB) and National Arts Council (NAC) to launch "Our Hawker Centers - A Heritage & Art Project," which aims to raise public awareness of the heritage and cultural value of Singapore's hawker centers and the areas they are located in.

Hawker centers are the open-air food malls in Singapore, each of which houses many stalls that sell an array of inexpensive street food. The project sees more than 70 schools, organizations and artists creating murals and art installations in more than 40 of these centers.

Nippon Paint Singapore donated painting tools and more than 1,000 liters of premium paint, worth a total of more than 40,000 Singapore dollars ($29,288), to student painters. The water-based exterior paint and specific colors were picked by Nippon Paint's experts to ensure safety, durability and stability of the materials.

To further commemorate the anniversary, Nippon Paint Singapore has rolled out an exclusively designed SG50 paint can, featuring Singapore's modern metropolis landscape, with a view towards encouraging and bonding together the students, organizations and artists participating in the hawker centers program. The company hopes this project will add a splash of vibrancy, color and creativity to these unique corners of Singapore life, and enliven the hawker food experience.

The company also hosted "Paint With Love" on June 20. Around 50 employees from Nippon Paint Singapore and Dow Chemical Pacific (Singapore) Pte Ltd, took part by painting the classrooms of the Eden Children's Center, bringing more color and love into the lives of the autistic children who use the center.

In the future, Nippon Paint Singapore will expand its CSR activities to reach out to the wider community. Group Chief Executive Officer of Nippon Paint Singapore's parent company Nipsea Group, Wee Siew Kim, said, "Our employee-centered CSR activities offer Nipsea employees a platform to participate and do their part for the environment and the community. In the countries in which the Nipsea Group operates, we hope to fulfill our commitment to social responsibility, showing care for groups living under challenging conditions, and bringing colors and love to more people. As we expand our CSR activities to more countries and involve all our employees, we also strive to include our business partners and corporate friends so that our collective strength can create an 'Eco Color' Asia."
