Rays of light are scattered over buildings in Shanghai on Monday in a phenomenon known as the Tyndall effect. Also known as Tyndall scattering, the Tyndall effect is light scattered by particles in a colloid or particles in a fine suspension. It is named after 19th century physicist John Tyndall.
