A garment truck collided with another garment truck Wednesday night in southeast Cambodia's Svay Rieng province, leaving 70 workers on board the two trucks injured, a senior official confirmed Thursday.

The accident took place at 7:00 p.m. local time in Bavet city when the trucks carried workers from factories to their homes, said Svay Rieng Provincial Governor Chieng Am.

"Five garment workers got seriously injured and 65 others sustained slight injuries in the crash," he told Xinhua over telephone, adding that most of the victims are females.

The governor said the two trucks drove in the same direction and the rear truck crashed into the back of the front truck while the driver attempted to overtake the front truck, but then tried to pull back when he saw a bus coming toward him.

Transporting garment workers in open trucks to and from garment factories is common in this Southeast Asian nation. In May this year, a garment truck crashed into a passenger bus in the province, leaving 18 workers dead.
