From Vegas To Macau III, the third and last installment of Hong Kong director Wong Jing's From Vegas To Macau (Also known as The Man From Macau) franchise is set to release on February 8, the first day of the Chinese New Year.
Following the story in From Vegas To Macau II, the new film sees the return of gambling god Shi Yijian (Chow Yun-Fat).
Despite a lukewarm reception from critics, the From Vegas To Macau series has seen rising box office returns: 524 million yuan ($81 million) for the first film and 974 million yuan for the second. Meanwhile, the cast adds more first-tier stars, such as Andy Lau and Nick Cheung.
Together with a group of Hong Kong filmmakers, Wong moved northward to produce works for the mainland in the early 2000s. Famous for his God of Gamblers (1989) and God of Gamblers Returns (1994), also starring Chow and Lau, Wong decided to bring the series back as From Vegas To Macau in 2014.
"When I was at the shoot, it brought back a lot of memories from the past," Chow said at a press conference Monday.
Relying on its established brand, star cast and demand for comedies during the Spring Festival period, From Vegas To Macau III stands to achieve similar box office returns.
