An elderly woman in East China's Zhejiang Province was so fed up with the damp, winter cold that she built a kang - or traditional bed-stove - in her community's parking garage.
But the septuagenarian is now feeling the heat from neighbors, who worry the fumes and flames from the wood-burning stove pose a fire hazard, media reported Wednesday.
The senior citizen, a native of North China, told media she built the kang because she could not get used to the wet winters of China's south.
Though the woman's apartment is equipped with air conditioners, she often chooses to sleep in the parking garage on her kang, claiming it helps alleviate the ache in her joints.
However, neighbors have cause for concern; piles of kindling, discarded napkins and quilts surround the bed, all a potential fire hazard.
The community is urging management to convince the woman to dismantle the kang.
