Dinosaur fans were wowed by the scene of the huge aquatic dinosaur Mosasaurus leaping out of the water to gobble down a great white shark in this year's blockbuster hit Jurassic World.

Now dinosaur lovers will have a chance for a closer look at this great beast with the debut of a scientific replica created by Zhao Chuang, the dino-artist featured in the newly-opened PNSO World Dinosaur Arts Exhibition at the Chongqing Museum of Natural History.

Opened on Friday, the exhibition features 100 of dino-themed artworks by Zhao and writer Yang Yang, ranging from paintings and sculptures to videos.

Two highlights are the life-sized scientific replicas of a 19-meter-long Mosasaurus and an 8-meter-long Yangchuanosaurus - one of the most scientifically accurate representations in the world.

The exhibition also walks visitors step-by-step through the process involved in bringing these prehistoric dinosaurs back to life in art by detailing the research and creativity that goes into each of Zhao's creations.

In addition to the sculptures, Yang has provided text detailing how these creatures lived and hunted more than 65 million years ago.

The exhibition will run until March 24.
