"I am here since the opening of the night market; I should also be here on the last day."

So said Teng Beiling, a man who sells rice noodles in Donghuamen night market, before it was closed to make room for the road on June 24. The 64-year-old Teng had worked there for 32 years since the opening of the night market. On his last day there, many of his regular customers came to say goodbye and took pictures with him. They still hope Teng will continue selling noodles. Differing from the lingering customers, some residents near the market are happy to see it go. The smell, noise and poor sanitary conditions had annoyed them for a long time. The construction team started to work only an hour after the close of the market. A staff member said their work will restore the municipal roads without affecting the traffic. (Source: The Beijing Evening News)
