Two high-speed trains developed by Chinese engineers successfully completed a test at a speed of 420 kilometers per hour on Friday, setting a new world record, chinanews.com reported on Friday.

The two trains, "Golden Phoenix" and "Dolphin Blue", crossed on the line between Zhengzhou, capital of Central China's Henan Province, and Xuzhou, a city in East China's Jiangsu Province in less than two seconds, the report noted.

As the two trains passed each other going in opposite directions, their relative speed reached 840 kilometers per hour, which analysts said would cause great disturbances in the trains' stability and pose a big challenge to research and design work, according to the report.

The success of the test demonstrated that China has mastered the core technologies of high-speed trains, according to Xinhua News Agency on Friday, citing Zhou Li, head of the technological management department of China Railway Corp, the national rail service operator.

Zhou also highlighted the importance of this experiment in building China's high-speed trains' brand and helping them go overseas, according to Xinhua.

It also shows China's high-speed train technology has become one of the most advanced in the world, and in some aspects even leading the world, said the report from chinanews.com.

In November 2015, China has successfully launched a speed test at 385 kilometers per hour, according to China National Radio's website cnr.com.

China has the greatest length of high-speed rail lines in the world, with a total of 19,000 kilometers of track, accounting for 60 percent of the world's total, said Xinhua.
